CLOCK APPEAL
Dear Parishioner,
The Church Council decided, following Michael Bethell's
decision to retire from a lifetime of daily winding the clock, that the
time had come to install an automatic winding mechanism which is
fully conservation compliant to respect the historic clock mechanism
and will simply replace the key with a small motor. It also seemed a
good idea to give the clock an overhaul and clean.
When the clock
makers came to survey what needs to be done they advised that the
clock needed to be stopped and that some repairs are required to
ensure that it is safe. The Church Clock Adviser from Derby urged us
to follow their advice.
The total cost of all this work will be about £10,000. We
are determined to raise the money and see the old clock working
once again.
To this end I have written to every house in Tideswell
asking if they could help by contributing some money to this appeal.
I feel confident that we can raise this amount in the knowledge that
the church and clock are loved by the community and any have
told me how much they have missed the clock.
The special envelope that we have supplied with this appeal
letter can be left in one of the collecting boxes in church, dropped
off at the Vicarage or handed in at Tideswell Stores.
If you are a tax
payer you may be able to help us additionally be signing the Gift Aid
on the front of the envelope.
Thank you for you help.
The Revd Frank Yates
